An independent review of our play area at Chiltern Open Air Museum
We had a great day out at Chiltern Open Air Museum. There are lots of rescued old buildings to look inside, these buildings are scattered around the grounds, so the children have lots of room to run around.
There is a fantastic playground for children with modern equipment – so quite a contrast to the old buildings!
The children loved playing there, looking at the sheep and lambs and making candles. We could also take the dog (keeping him on a short lead) so that was super. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back!

The model Anderson Shelter in the new Adventure Playground.
Children can have fun playing in the model Victorian toll house, shepherd’s living van and Anderson shelter, before exploring the real historic buildings at the museum. The new playground is just one of the summer half-term holiday family activities on offer at the museum, which include historic toys and games, crafts and artist-led children’s workshops at Chiltern Art Fest Live on 1 and 2 June.
Museum director, Sue Shave, says ‘The new adventure playground is a wonderful addition to Chiltern Open Air Museum. The design is quirky, fun and appropriately historic!’
