Nether Silton Parish Council

Natural Parish Council playground
Fergie the playground tractor designed by Image Playgrounds

The Challenge

The Nether Silton Parish Council playground needed to be the social heart of the village. On the boundary of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Nether Silton is the epitome of village life. With a population of 100 people and no bus service the Parish Council were very keen to have a suitable play area for the village children to play on in a safe environment.

Paul Nicholson was in charge of the project and had already secured funding through the North Yorkshire Play builder scheme. The Parish Council had also worked hard to fund raise and were able to match the funding available.

The Playground

Consultations then took place between the design team here at Image Playgrounds, Paul and members of the community. It was quickly decided that this Parish Council playground needed a natural look and feel. We were tasked to use only natural timber products with minimal steel additions. We are very keen to design bespoke items to suit the needs of all our clients so happily suggested we design a purpose built play tractor.

The tractor fitted in perfectly with our other natural play equipment. We brought in wooden stepping logs and a weaving bamboo trail, as well as an exciting climbing tower with a slide. Children also love the social time they can share on the basket swing.

The Parish Council playground was a huge success and warmly received by the community. It also brings in more residents from surrounding villages to use the play area and other amenities in the village.
