Coal Mining Museum

Bespoke coal mining museum playground design
bespoke playground zip wire structure

The Challenge

We were approached by a local coal mining museum to design a bespoke playground for their attractions. They wanted their space to serve as an extension to their theme that children would enjoy. It had to give families a fun outdoor space to use on their visit.

With our task to provide a reflection of the past into an open public space to keep coal mining alive, we got to work. For inspiration, we looked at the key features in mining history and began creating a bespoke design for this museum playground.

The Playground

Assigned with developing and landscaping a piece of their land, we designed, manufactured and fit a bespoke coal mining museum playground.  We included towers with large slides to replicate the tunnels down the pit and lots of activity based equipment.

Included in this play area is a unique zip cableway. We re-designed it to mimic the pit head/hoist structure which is found in the coal mines the museum highlights.  This ever popular, adventurous piece of playground equipment is a real favourite with visitors to the museum.

This playground is suitable for all children from early years until around 12 years of age. It’s the perfect way to extend and consolidate what they’ve learned in the museum and increases its attraction to families and school groups. Both our team and the museum’s love the new space. It’s a real winner and is already proving to be a big success with visitors and will be for many years to come.
